Subject: spitting oil IP: Logged
Message: I just bought an 89 dodge dakota sport 4x4 with 218k on the clock. The engine seems to run great(180 psi compression), except for oil is spitting out of the dipstick tube. Ive changed the oil and put 4qts in, so I know that it isnt overfilled. My buddy thinks that it could be caused by excessive blow by in the valve train. Anybody got any Ideas?

Message: Excessive blow by the piston rings will cause this. Replace your pcv valve and breather. A plugged pcv valve will cause positive pressures in the crank case causing those pressures to release somewheres (dip stick tubes, blow out seals, can even blow the engine oil pan apart if to much pressure is built up). The pcv valves purpose is to create a vacuum (negative pressure) in the crank case and take any blow by from the piston rings and reburn it through the engine.

Message: Me tooo.
Replace the PCV positive crankcase ventalation
on the pass side valve cover and on the other one
there is a filter,
If either is pluged you will build presure in your
crankcase
you need to check both the PCV will pull any
blow by in but if the other filter is pluged it
wont.

Message: Mine is an 89 4X2 with 231K miles and has NO blow by and runs great, i don't know if its luck of the draw or if this engine is built strong. Even starts in three cranks. I got to do some mods for fuel efficiency.

Message: On your 89 through a set of headers and a good
exhaust, The trottle body injection motors react
much like the old carborated engines.
They will help both mileage and power.
Try just a set of headers on a multiport with no
other mods and you will lose not gain untill you
do more with the intake side than the benifits
of the headers will show up

Message: Hello! I just got a 88 with 109k on it. Truck looks great and runs ok. Motor sounds real good but It seems to be holding back a lot. It has oil up the stick. Also, It acts like it's going to die when your slowing down or coming to a stop. Sometimes it does. It's kind of strange. When you take your foot off the gas the low washer fluid light starts blinking and as you are coming to a stop, if you don't give it a bit of gas the oil light comes on and oil pressure drops rapidly and then it dies. It doesn't do the oil pressure part everytime, though. I put a new air filter in it today, haven't drove it yet to see if it helped any. The old filter was really bad, solid black in some spots. I'm sure it needs more done to get it running up to par. Any sugestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Diane
