i'm trying to get the muffler shop switch it out with a 40 series delta flow because i want hear hear sometimes but not all the time aka 40 series original anyways that just my 2 cents i didn't like the sound and not trying to flame anyone

Message: Give it a few weeks or so. The packing will burn off and the muffler will, as it's termed, "burn in". Mine took about a month to get to sound like it does now (about 1000-1500 miles).
Personally, I like the sound of the muffler on my truck. I finally heard it from outside the truck the other day; I had someone rev the engine to about 3500 and it sounds pretty good. As the RPM's dropped there could even be heard a small burble or two, which makes the engine sound much bigger than it is. I've had three knowlegeable car guys hear it and the look on their faces is great when I say, "pretty good for a v-6."
I respond because it sounds like this is what you're wanting, you say "I want [to] hear [it] sometimes but not all the time." I don't, however, know how a 40 series of any iteration sounds on this truck.

Message: You need to run the 17748 at least 500 to 700 miles before the sound seems to stabilize. Mine is louder than stock and has agood sound.

Message: the guy that did mine had to actually cut about 2-1/2 inches out of the stock pipe but i went with the stock tailpipe so that may make a difference. anyway i finally got it all solved. i got the 40 series original and it sounds great! it's got a good idle to it and is not loud on the highway, i could listen to the radio at normal listening volume and had to actually listen really hard for it. when i rev it up you definetely know it's there. but if you take it up to about 4,000 rpm it pops on the way back down but i'll live with it. all in all if you're on the fence about the 40 original get it! you won't be disappointed(don't worry what you've heard on v8's they are not that loud on v6's) later!!

Message: i have the dynomax catback system and i actually cut the catback part of and put a turn down pipe on the end of the muffler before the rear end. its loud as(its loud) but it seemed like the truck ran better this way? the cat was also taken out and replaced with 3 inch pipe and reduced down to go into the 2 3/4 muffler? i am happy with this but is there a better setup? it might have seemed to run the best with when i hollowed out the origional cat with the catback
