Okay, I have yet to identify what my strange smell is, but I have figured out that the sweetness to it is just my air freshner. heh

It still smells like Burgur King Onion Rings and doesn't happen all the time. I've had trouble identifying under which conditions I can smell it, but after a road trip yesterday, this is what I found.

It usually (not always) happens on deceleration after high speeds. As in doing 65+ and coming to a light. Clutch goes in and light-moderate braking.

Also occasionally after doing a burnout, even on wet pavement. Last time was on wet pavement, and RPMs never got above 3k, so it's not reving high under no load.

I also get it sometimes when putting high load on the engine, like letting myself slow down too much in 5th and trying to accelerate back up with RPMs below 1500.

I'm not flashing any codes and the car is acting normally. The only strange occurance happened about a week ago. I was pulling out of the parking lot and came to a stop sign. I put on the brakes and it felt like the right front ABS went off. Strange thing was, it wasn't rapid pulsing like the ABS. Felt like the brake was slipping. After I stopped I started again and hit the brakes. Same thing happened, plus it pulled to the right some. I got out and looked at it. Nothing noticably wrong. So I continued to my destination. Haven't had a problem since. I even tried some hard braking. Anyway, now the only thing I notice is the usual pulsing brake roaters and it slightly pulling to the right on high speed braking. Oh yea, and after driving a while, the clutch will sometimes go a little soft on me. After 70k miles and not knowing when it was replaced last, I think it might be it's time to go.

2001 Dak Sport. 3.9 V6, 5 speed. Stock.

yea, i was half expecting that reply. I actually looked inside for something like that, but it's clean. Got it to happen again tonight. Could smell it after passing a truck in third at 55. Only smelled it after the 3-4 shift.

Something just hit me. I have been putting mid-grade gas im my tank mainly out of habit. (old car ran like sh!t on 87). After switching back to 87 on my last tank, I don't smell it as much. I know the death flash induces lean conditions anyway, so could the higer octane gas be allowing some unburt fuel into the cat, making funky smells?
