i have an auto trans, 2001 dak 4by, and it seems my tranny stays in DRIVE at all times, even at a stop, it never automatically drops back to 1st so obviously take off is almost nonexistent. Yes its full of fluid and the only way to accelerate is to manually shift from 1st up to drive. any thoughts? Is the tranny totally F'ed up or what?

Could be a stuck shift solenoid causing it to start out in 2nd or 3rd gear. You need to have it scanned for codes.

There are no codes showing, and ive already reset the computer... Larry i know everyone looks up to you on this site... i dont blame them thanxs for the advice. Is this the Governor Pressure Solenoid
and transducer problem i've read about. The truck does run beautifully once in the higher gear> like shifts in and out of o/d when it should.

As I have said on many post these new computer
controlled vehicles depend on sensor imput without
the imput to the comp nothing will work right.

Unlike the old days of points and condenser, coil
being Ignition, trans being trans, cooling system
and alt and regulator for charging the Bat, they
do the same thing only in a diff way.

Once you understand that, they are easy to diagnose
and fix.

The first car I ever worked on was a 1964
Studebraker my father Joseph when he started J&J
Auto back in 1971 let me rebuild a 2 bl carb for
this studebraker daytona stantion wagon.

I guess when you mention Studebrakers you know
you are just dealing with an old old mech who
has seen just about everything and wants to be
put out to pasture. LOL

I will continue to help as long as I can but someday I
do want to retire, its just everyone keeps bugging me
for help because of my experience with the internal
combustion engine and how can I make it run better

30 Years building Mopar B & RB's for street and strip
has had its rewards in customer satisfaction, I have also
had one of my 440 RB hemi head conversion motors
featured in Mopar Magazine pulling just over 650 HP

Does the name Trickle ring a bell he is my cousin
Old Dick himself

Take it from there and see if you can figure out who I
really am.

I Am Larry From J&J Complete Automotive Service since
1971 and retired since 2001
