Subject: Your Cam degrees IP: Logged
Message: Larry, how is your cam working out? Custom cam 268 272 .480, I haven't seen these type #'s posted on any other site. I want the KRC Performance 200/206-504/512 112 or something equivelent but have a hard time chokin up $349+ Springs + Shipping this close to christmas. I'm assuming your #'s are with 1.7RR's??
Need to clarify something 200/206 is Lift Intake/Lift exhaust. 504/512 Duration intake/duration exhaust and 112 is the lobe seperation?
I called the guys @ CompCams and they said they could ReGrind a stock cam for $115 but wouldn't give me hard #'s and I felt like they were blowing me off.
I e-mailed Sam @ SoCalDak but he has not replied yet. Who cut your cam & in what price range?
Anybody else running an other-than-stock Cam give me a heads up? I've built my new motor up to the cam and stopping 'til I make a decision.
Thx,
Shank

Message: What are the specs on the new motor? I'm currently running the krc 200 cam. The 200/206 is degrees of duration, 504/512 is lift in inches. Depending on your combo I reccomend going with a bigger cam that the krc 200, mines being pulled this winter for something bigger. The 115 price sounds about right for a regrind, included in krc's price is a new cam core. Going straight to the cam company a regrind should be in the 115 to 130 buck range. Look on www.car-part.com for a used cam core.

ÿþ< don't know why have complained but it still
happens so if any one writes to me and gets this
its not me but my ISP
Anser to your email about what the #s are
The reason I went with a longer duration is
because of the stroker crank.
I did lose some low end below 2000 but the higher
stall converter takes care of that. as soon as I
am rolling I am at 2000rpm my powerband comes on
at 2500 and runs strong to 5000 rpm it starts to
drop off after 5000
My cam was made by crower and cost over $400 it
was made before there were any aftermarket cams
avalible
The longer duration and the stroker crank is what
gave me the lean out probs at 3000 3500 rpm and
was running an Apexi but the mopar comp is taking
care of it by its self.
The ASE chip had about the same timming but the
fuel curve was weak and did the same thing even
after they said they changed it same thing and
another $150 they charged me.
200 206 is the duration the amount of rotation
the valve is open this is rated at .050 so around
250 256
504 512 is the lift how far the valves open.
The 112 is the centerline how far from TDC
to max lift.
You can use these numbers to figure out overlap
the amount of rotation while both valves are
open at the same time. scavenging is where the
incoming charge helps push out the spent gas exh
On a high reving engine you would want more
overlap. the second KRC cam has a 114 centerline
and more overlap for a higher reving motor as
Marty says blower cam it will breath better at
higher rpm
Here is a good site that explains it so I can type
less
http://www.performore.com/technical_articles/camshaft_selection/main.htm
Greg, Shank has 2 extra V6 cams that he can get
reground. and Shank as Greg said we would need to
know what is all being done to the engine before
being able to select duration, centerline and lift
You can go with more duration only you will need
to get more fuel the stock curves will run lean
Greg is also using an Apexi with nitrious and his
truck will blow me away easy
the reason I went 272 on exh was to have a
stroner top end its nuts over 3500rpm revs like a
bitch as you can see from my 1/4 mile time of
14.4 in a 4X4 its great and surprises a lot of
people on the street when I blow them away the
look on there faces is neat O/D off 5000 rpm is
just over 110mph
Dan the fastman is also doing regrinds

Message: <-- Scratchin back of head now.
I looked @ hughesengines.com selections of cams http://www.hughesengines.com/cams/39v6cams.asp
And now have more choices that KRC 200.
KRC 200 lobe seperation is 112 degrees and the blower version is 114. All of hughes are 114??
Stock is already 114 degrees. Exhaust duration (264)- Intake duration (250)= 14 or 114 degrees seperation, right? (http://dodgeram.org/tech/gas/specs/3_9v6.htm) Why is KRC saying the "Blower" version is 114 deg with same lift/duration?
I'm looking for more low-end torque and HP not high end RPM.
I went from confidant to "deer in the headlights" in about 2 hrs of reading & researching. HELP!!!

Message: a 114 centerline would have 228 seperation from
lobes max lift
a shorter duration high lift will give you more
low end
What are you all doing to the motor,
10 to 1 Compresion, ported heads
256 266 with a 112 and a .490 lift would give you
a power band that starts coming on strong on the
V6 around 2400 without sacrificing hardly any
low end and run strong to 5000rpm
