Subject: installation question IP: Logged
Message: ok I'm about to install my new radiator and the two tranny lines on the bottom of the radiator have a plastic collar of some sort with two ears on them would anyone know if all you do is squeeze them together and pull the lines off? unfortunatley my new rad was missing the fittings so I wont tear into it until the morning when they get delivered. But I have never seen this type of fitting before, any help would be appreciated.

Message: First off.....you need to list some basics about your Dak before complete help can be given.
Second....Haynes is a bit sarcastic but correct, you should always have a manual around for any vehicle you plan to do more then routine maintanace on.
All that being said its sounds to me like you got the wrong rad. or maybe your supposed to swap those fittings from your old one. I replaced the rad. in my 94 auto years ago and it was a basic swap, didnt need to do anything but R&R.
Those fittings dont just "squeeze" they take a special tool set that releases the collar inside. They also work on fuel lines and AC.
Good luck.

Message: You should just be able to push the line in, squeeze the ears together and pull the line out. Some other types require you to have a special tool that inserts into the line to release the little fingers that prevent the line from being pulled off

Message: those repair manuals are not always the best either they dont always list everything.
had the same trouble with not being able to find a sensor in the book for my neon. had a mechanic feiends telling where it was at and all but the book didn't show it at all. and it ended up being my problem
