 Subject: Trailer Towing

I bought a 23ft camping trailor and I guess the 02 Quad 3.9 Did very well.Max towing is 4800lbs.This trailer is 4500lbs dry wt.The only problem was alittle rubber burning i think it is the fan belt looks like it is worn more then normal.Only 9500 miles on it and the truck. Also The trans leaks when towing only dry any other time.

If the trans leaks only when towing it might be overheating and puking fluid out the top vent, you might want to look into a trans cooler if that is the case. Heat kills auto trannies fast.

I would also recomend a good trans cooler pulling
that much weight, it will keep your tranny alive
They are not that hard to install

sorry took a while the reply.I bought a oem cooler and put it on after reading all the things about how dodge tranys dont like heat and before i towed with it.If it were too full i guess it would still come out of the vent.i will see in the spring when i tow again. Thanks

Over filled tranny can be as bad as one a quart low. The fluid foams up and its just as if there is no fluid.
I would double check you tranny if I was you, surely dont wait till spring.
And your towing above the recommended weight limit, not a very smart thing to do. I tow a 3000lbs camper right now, and its all the v6 can handle.

The dodge web site says the 02 3.9 quad cab is rated for 4800lbs. Do to liability reasons they always rate for less then what it can really pull.I did check the fluid and its ok i dont know if it foams up and leaks out the vent.

I finely unloaded the dakota im sure i wont have any problems towing with a 04 f150 5.4L.WOW this thing hauls ass. so long thanks for all help.

chuff Im no sell i admit i am stupid.Stupid for buying the POS dodge in the first place. Read all of my other posts everything from the crapy radio to the cheap ball joints.And one more thing i dont have a water collector in my oil filler cap like the crappy 4.7 water in the engine normal maybe for dodge.Also have fun changing your diff fluid all the time whats that for the crappy gear alignment. If you mean coming to my senses and going back to ford a sell out your right.
