Subject: Wiper Transmission failure?? IP: Logged
Message: The windshield wipers on my "new" 1992 Dak have stopped working. The motor still turns but nothing happens unless you grab one and help it along. Since I haven't had a chance to tear into it yet I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this type of problem before I tear into the cowling. Maybe it will be a little less painfull if I know what I'm looking for. Anyone?
Thanx!

Message: the shaft of the motor has a drive gear or sleeve(depending on the style you have) pressed onto it.it is most likely slipping. There is no practicle wat to repair it except by replacing the motor/transmission assembly. I did one on the back window of a minivan alast year and the motor/transmission assembly only ran about $40. I hope it is as cheap for you. try this befor attatching the mechanicals to the assembly, install and run the motor for a few cycles then shut it off, then install the mechanical arm parts, this way you know for sure the motor has stopped at one side of it's travel, and the arms can then be installed in the correct position. When I did the mini van I did not realise the motor was stopped at some ramdom postion and the first trime I tried the wipers after the replacement I was wiping 1/3 the window and 2/3 the tailgate door. funny now but felt stupid at the time.
