 Subject: What kind of gears should i get for Y2K?

Aloha dudes and duddettes,
i have a 2000 Dodge Dakota V6 3.9L engine with the 42RE trans and the 3.55 gearing(no posi). where and what kind of gearing can i get to make my truck chirp on the line? thing is i'm not a mechanic and stuff so i don't know where and what to get? all i know is my DAK is slow of the line and up hills!! any help is appreciated.

i would get the 3.91 gears from richmond and maybe a powertrax. the 3.91's will help you take off better while the trax will help you in nasty weather. i spent around $700 on parts and labor, it was worth it especially for the new found traction.

I also went to 3.91 in my 95 4X4 and with the
sure grip and 1600 stall converter it makes a
big diff out of the hole
14.4 @ 97 I was running 14.9 14.8 with the 3.55
so you can see it helps a lot
Getting a V6 4X4 under 15 is a chore and not for
anyone with a weak stomic

The Dana Trac-Loc is about $180 from www.4wheelparts.com. It's less expensive than the others.

Instead of rear gearing why do you just put on some mods for more power. I added a v8 tb, air intake and exhaust. I have the stock 3.55s and can smoke the tires pretty well and i love the new power. After those mods it feels like an all new truck. You can probably add all those mods for cheaper than it would take to re-gear. Just a suggestion, good luck.

well, by changing my gears, I can smoke 33's on a 3.91 Gear. That is of course with just a few mods, air intake, and a TB. But mostly the gears helped out. Hell i can even bark all four tires while in 4wheel drive.

If i get the Dana Trac-Loc from www.4wheelparts.com, will they have the right parts for my Y2K V6? Will I have to get any attachments, accesories, etc.?

I have all the mods on a V6 you can think of without slapping on a supercharger!! i have spent well over 9 grand on mods, looks, and sound on this bad boy. the last thing is just putting on a V8!!! i have waaay too many mods to put down... if you want to i will....
any how, anyone got more input? i really wanna good, reliable, and inexpensive gearing so i can get those head starts and beat them import cars!

I got my Trac-Loc right from 4wheelparts and put it in with the new gears. No problem.

I have a 2003 V6 automatic,club cab, towing pkg,and it was really dead. Engine turned too slow and had no power on the road, constantly shifted down. It came with a 3:55 rear end and I changed it to a 4:10 a couple of days ago. It made a different truck out of it. Cost $530 and worth every dollar.
