Subject: Boring a 3.9? IP: Logged
Message: I see a whole bunch of stuff on here as far as performance that involves mods to the exhaust, intake, throttle body, etc. I haven't seen much of anyone wanting to bore their V6 over to the size of the 5.9 (4.000" bore I think), or putting in flat top pistons for more compression. I am in a motorsports school and I have the knowledge and access to bore and hone my engine, and access to deals on pistons, and all other new $hit. So I just wanted everyone's opinion on this. Most importantly, if I do this, will this f*ck things up with the computer? Thanks!

Message: It shouldn't mess with the computer because you arent changing the stroke so the timeing wouldnt have to be off any. Well auctally you might have to get a chip for it because you will be useing a lot more fuel/air. But good luck with it and tell us how it goes.

Message: you can't bore these new casting like you could in the 60's or 70's. i'm talkin' like .040 to .060. .030" is probably all it could stand. i'd stroke it.

Message: .030 is safe .060 is pushing it some castings are
just not thick enough between the cyl and water
jacket.
But no 2 blocks are the same and some can go .060
but make sure you check it out first, .060 is
.030 per side and can get hot spots in the cyl
by beeing to thin and they will crack
As far as the computer yes it will handle it with
no probs 10 to 1 .030 over is not a prob

bore with 10 to 1 pistons maybe 10 to 20
You will notice it most on the low end
