Message: After extensive research on this site I have decided to swap in a dynomax superturbo on my 2001 3.9L RC 4x4. Can anyone please tell me what part number I need. I want to stay with the 2.5" in and out but the numbers their tech line is giving me are center in, offset out. I might be wrong but my stock muffler looks like offset in, offset out. Any help would be much appreciated.

DynoMax SuperTurbo mufflers will flow either direction, their web site will tell you this.
You can use
#17733 SPORT 18.5" long
or
#17748 STREET 25.5" long
Both are Center/Offset 2.5" in/out
I started with the #17733 I liked it at first, after about a month I got tired of the buzzz around town, it's quite going down the highway.
I now have the # 17748 all you get in the cab is a lite rumble.
I'd be glad to sent you photos of my install if you like.

Message: Another question for DakotaDan, was there a difference in power between the two Dynomax's?
And second, I guess the #17748 is not too big of a muffler for our 3.9L?
Thanks

Message: I got the DynoMax 17748 also...I love it. Nice deep rumble, and no buzzing or excessive noise. A piece of cake to install myself. Fits like a charm. I love it.

1. It did feel like the #17748 gave back a little low end TQ over the #17733, didn't see any changes in upper RPM's over the #17733 just no buzzzz...
2. No. the factory muffler is 28.5" long the #17748 will bolt right in with a 4" adpter from Autozone 2.5 in/out, you just need to make you a hanger as the factory one is welded to the muffler.

thanks for the reply, I'll go with the #17748. I won't need the photos, I'm going to have it done at my neighbors shop but thanks anyways.

Message: So you guys are saying to just replace the factory muffler and not get a catback system. I was thinking getting a catcack systen but now you guys got me a little confused. Has anyone noticed a big HP difference by just replacing the factory muffler or should I spend the extra cash and get a catback? I want the best bang for the buck and a tough sounding exhaust, Im sick of hearing the guy upstairs showoff in his mustang!

Message: depends on the length. you may have to get a short one and fab up an adapter pipe or you may get lucky and be able to bolt it right in. BUT YOU MUST GET UNDER IT WITH A MEASUREING TAPE AND DO SOME VERY ACCURATE MEASURING just to make sure.

Message: Thanks, Hey I need some help, i'm a up and coming offroader/trail rider with a 2WD Dak and was wondering what kind of upgrades I would need to be a good 2WD off roader. I have my flows on the way plus a 3" body lift and was thinking of eventually getting a Limited Slip Diff. Once I install my body lift will I be able to fit 33x9.5 tires? would really apreciate the shopping list!

Message: madmax,
for starters on the shopping list i would put a 4wd dakota....but if you are serious about throwing money into a 2wd then you need locker, not a lsd for the rear. you will want a suspension lift, not body, and you will need to re-gear with the bigger tires. without a transfer case to give you low range for moving over obsticles or pulling people out of mudd, you will need a little extra nuts. but if you are serious about getting into offroading i would get either a dedicated wheelin rig or a 4wd dakota.
