Subject: Larry can you help me? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 93 Dakota Sport Reg Cab(same color as yours)with the 3.9L Magnum. I have R/T rims on it. The Flowmaster 40 Series exhaust. Your basic K&N Filter. The tornado fuel saver which I swear works for better fuel economy. Your basic Ignition system, basic everything else in the engine bay. Really is there anything like a better ignition system to boast performance a little. I can only spend so much but would like it to run better. Any ideas of what I can do?

Message: MSD ignition...I think you have to get a better coil if you use it too. I'm not an ignition expert though. Do a search for MSD ignition and see if you can find some of the old threads about it. I know we got some.

Message: On your 93 a V8 throttle body swap would be your
best bang for the buck 15 to 18 rear wheel hp gain
is average on dyno tests. around $150 with cable
Just be sure its a V8 from 92 to 95 they have the
ported EGR setup 96 and up do not.
There is some HP to be gained with an aftermarket
ignition but you need to open up the gap and tune
the system so they run right. around $250 with a
hotter coil you can run a bigger gap and create a
bigger flame front.
1.7 rollers are also another big bang for the buck
18 HP average gain around $350
All of these mods will increase mileage and performance

Message: From my personal experiance, as well as automotive education, your not going to see any real world gains from a performance ignition on a stock engine. The high performance ignitions and hotter coils really only do there thing when you increase combustion chamber pressure (through higher dynamic compression or forced induction), dramatically richen the air/fuel ratio, or run at much higher rpms then the stock system was designed to deal with. Otherwise your money will be better spent on dealing with air induction and exhaust.

Message: 4.7 no thats a coilover system NO
There are gains to be had with aftermarket but
it needs to be set up right.
the 3.9 responds well to the MSD box and coil
Autolite AP3923 gaped at .060 and index and
you will have noticeable gains right of idle
and up.
On a stock motor you will not notice, should have
the intake side done first, TB, cold air, 1.7;s
than you will notice it and at that time your
ready to improve exhaust flow
Headers, carsound, muff and 2.5 single tail still
show the best gains I don't care what anybody
says, bigger is only for turbo or S/C
doing the ign first will show little gain
doing the exhaust first will drop loe end
