I have a 93 Dakota with the 3.9 Magnum V6. The timing chain was just replaced at 173,000 miles. The engine when I first start it sometimes has a slight knock to it until it warms up. I am wondering if it possible needs a bearing job. It has done this since I got the truck with 148,000 on it. Is this normal for the 3.9?

How is your oil presure
Idle?
while crusing?

Even with a new chain if you don't also install
the tensioner they develope the chain knock
rattle what ever you want to call it after
10 15,000 miles.

I bought 3 new daks in the last 9 years and all
had that prob, normal for these motors.

I got the whole mopar kit tensioner and all from Benoy Motors. The oil pressure runs in the middle at idle good, at cruising it is slightly past middle.

Your oil presure is fine I would say no it does
not need crank bearings.

Could be a lifter noise or a slight piston slap
with that many miles.

I would not be to concerned with the noise if as
you say it goes away as soon as it warms up a
little.

Drive that babe another 100,000 and then you can
tell us about it.
