Message: I have a 93 Dakota with the 3.9 Magnum V6. The timing chain was just replaced at 173,000 miles. The engine when I first start it sometimes has a slight knock to it until it warms up. I am wondering if it possible needs a bearing job. It has done this since I got the truck with 148,000 on it. Is this normal for the 3.9?

Idle?
while crusing?
Even with a new chain if you don't also install
the tensioner they develope the chain knock
rattle what ever you want to call it after
10 15,000 miles.
I bought 3 new daks in the last 9 years and all
had that prob, normal for these motors.

Message: I got the whole mopar kit tensioner and all from Benoy Motors. The oil pressure runs in the middle at idle good, at cruising it is slightly past middle.

Message: Your oil presure is fine I would say no it does
not need crank bearings.
Could be a lifter noise or a slight piston slap
with that many miles.
I would not be to concerned with the noise if as
you say it goes away as soon as it warms up a
little.
Drive that babe another 100,000 and then you can
tell us about it.
