Subject: V6 catalytic converter size question IP: Logged
Message: Ive read many different things about the inlet\outlet sizes of the v6 cat, does anyone know the accurate numbers? If I buy a universal cat with the same inlet\outlet sizes, what kind of work will be involved getting it to fit? I know the OEM cat comes with the pipes on either end. Can those be cut and reused? Im having it done at a muffler shop, I just want a high flow cat since mine went out, and Im gonna have to buy the cat myself.
Thanks!

Message: I just put a new carsound on my truck, I thought
it would make it quiter but it gave it a deeper
melow tone
16" overall length 2.5 slip fit in out, you may
need a short piece of 2.5 pipe but you can install
them without any welding saves a lot of time.
Oh and a couple clamps
The Catco that gives you a bad rotten egg smell
is a universal weld in unit.
Part # CAR94006 $84 plus shipping

After seeing the quality and the resaults I will
be using only the carsound cats from now on in
the shop when someone needs a converter
I was running without one but just got sick of
the EGR light coming on because not quit enough
back presure so I desided to put a good flowing
unit on and it did the trick

You may not even need the expander you should be able to slip and
clamp the whole works.
On mine I cut the old cat out put the new one under the pass seat all
you need is 13" between were the converter goes it slips 1 1/2 into
each end. Than I just ran a piece of 2.5 right to the muff location.
What I would do is mount the tail & muff and than just figure out
where to cut the pipe install the converter on the existing y pipe
and than just measure how long a piece you need and than clamp
it all together after its fitted.
Almost any auto store will cut you any length you need to go from
the cat to the muff, it will be around 12 to 14" to the cat just remember
to add 3" for the slip fit 1 1/2 on each end.
I myself would rather slip and clamp than weld and its what I do
that way if you ever need to replace anything you can remove it
without cutting anything
