Subject: Took an F150 IP: Logged
Message: I was on the interstate on Sat. night and someone driving a Ford F150, one of the newer models, somewhere around a 2000 or better I'd guess...
Well thought they'd be funny, so after he passed me up, I came back on him and slowly but steadily overtook it. I was ahead by about 3 feet and separating over about a 2 mile span when the driver decided to give up.
I have a 2000 3.9 V6, extended cab. Booya.

Message: Actually my F-150 is pretty quick, i bet it could almost keep up with my Dak. It has the I6 which has lots of torque, so it accelerates pretty good with the 35" Super Swampers on it.

Message: jon - i had a 89 f-150 with a 4.9 and a 5 speed. man, if there is no such a thing as an indestructable vehicle, that one had to be at the top of the 'almost' list. the only problem in the entire vehicle - torque laden I6 has a tendancy to break opposite engine mount under simoultaneous hard accell/sharp jarring bump. what problem to have - too much torque for standard mounts. even at 12 mpg, i would trade my new dak in a heartbeat to have the old boy back.

Message: tony my man there are enough differences between the old 3.9 and the 3.9 magnum that there is nothing you can "add" to it to make the older 3.9 into a magnum. the block is different in the lifter area, the magnum uses hollow pushrods to oil the heads, vrs. oil galleries to the upper valve train in the older ones. roller hydraulic valve followers in the newer, simple hydraulic followers in the older. valve geometry is different and incompatable, heads are different, 1.6 rocker ratio vs. 1.5 in the older, and cannot be converted due to incomopatability of fulcrum points. older blocks are externally balanced engines, magnums are internally, The castings amount to being the same but the way they are machined is totally different.
