Message: Have you checked to see if the coil is getting 12V? Don't know about yours but the newer Daks have a relay that controls battery voltage to the coil - I'm just guessing here.

Message: Oh no, please don't do that, you'd be dead-shorting the battery to ground - if you're lucky you'd only blow a fuse or breaker but still, not good. Use a volt meter if you have one.
With all due respect, if you're not familiar with basic auto electrical issues you might want to get some on-site help from somebody who is. If you accidently fry something it could end up costing you alot more money to fix.

Message: If you have a volt meter you can check the -
signal side it should pulse while cranking if
not check dist pickup and relucter.
+ side will be a steady voltage while cranking
If you have an ohm meter check the resistance of
the pick up

Message: Wallace - this was an old post .
Anyway - open up the wiring harness under the fuse/relay box [ underhood ] about 8 inches down the harness , you will find a splice of 3 or 4 wires - redo this splice - use a good quality
crimp , or solder it well and tape back up again .

Message: I'm having the same problem with my 1998 v6 Dak.
Truck is new to me and has been driving just fine
until last month it just cut off while leaving a
Wendy's parking lot. Wouldn't start back up. I've
chased to problem to no spark. I've gone in and
changed the Distributor Cap, Spark plug wires,
Ignition Coil, Spark plugs, Crankshaft Position
sensor and as of yesterday the whole damn computer
and STILL nothing. I'm at a lost. I know its an
old post but im hoping someone can chime in.
* Old Posts still show up in internet searches and
the info is still relevant...don't get why people
point out the age of posts.

Message: LMAO!! a little extreme huh lol. When he asked
that question it WAS 2003. So it wasn't THAT bad.
Hell my Dakota is a 98, which now makes it 14
years old, but i only paid $1500 for it so im
happy with it.
I'm adding some info for anyone who may see this
thread today or in the next ten years lol
I got my truck to start yesterday then it stopped
but I KNOW WHY and IM EXTREMELY HAPY!! MY PROBLEM
WAS THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR. I got it to
start by adjusting the distance that the
CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR's WINDING COIL is from
the sensing teeth ( you can see what i mean on
this video at like 1:40
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuIislTGOwA ). At
first my distance was TOO FAR..so NO SPARK! Then
it was JUST RIGHT. So the Truck started...then i
tightened it down TOO MUCH and the WINDING COIL
got TOO CLOSE the the SENSING TEETH and the damn
CPS unit got ate into (LMAO!!) I'm not mad though
because through that I learned what my problem is!
I was just so happy to hear her running again! I
just ordered another CPS off EBAY for only $20 and
when it comes in i'll put it in fully aware of
those TEETH in there. I hope this helps.
