Subject: vaccum leak??? IP: Logged
Message: Ok, this has definately gotten worse since i got my truck in 2002. its a 3.9 5spd and everytime i step on the gas just slightly i hear a sucking noise. It is at its worse when you start up from cold but is still there after it warms up and you can only hear it from inside the cab. It sounds like a definate vac leak but checked all lines and found nothing. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS AND WHERE IS IT COMING FROM? Another quick question, i know the little cap on the distributor is there for ventilation but can it also let moisture in? And what happens if i plug it up? it runs crappy when damp and wet outside. thanks

Message: Bad wires cap when moist can create a miss check
the routing on your wires be sure none are rubbing
through and shorting on wet days to ground.
A good way to see is start your truck on a wet
night when good and dark and rev a little you will
see them arcing
I just take a spray bottle with water and spray
them down to see if I can find a prob with the
wires when I get a truck that does that.

Message: I have a 2000 dakota with a 3.9 5 speed.
Mine truck does the same thing. What that noise is not a vacuum leak but your motor sucking air thouth the T. body. All trucks do it a little if they have the 3.9 5.2 5.9 motors.
