Bought an 'o3 Dakota,V6, 3:55 rear end and it is dead. Makes poor fuel milage, 14 to 17. Had a '94 that made 23. Has anyone changed to a 3:92 or 4:11 and how did it affect the speedometer and the shifting patterns? Truck now runs 1500 rpms at55 mph and 2000 rpms at 70. My '94 ran 2300 at 70 and really loved that truck. This one stinks!Bob

The 3.91 will run about 300rpm higher and all you
need to do is have a dealer change the speedo
settings in the comp for the lower gears

I went to 3.91 myself and the gas mileage never
changed seams even better but more power to the
ground

Larry,

Where would be a good place to get 3.91 for my 2002 v6 Dak? If you have any other advice, know anyone that makes a limited slip differential?

Ryan has the gears made by Richmond for $230 but
they are not just a bolt in mod you need a guage
to set pinion height.

He also sells the powertrax that can be

You don't need to do anything with the computer or speedo on a '98 and up truck to compensate for a gear change. It automatically adjusts. You only have to have to have the speedo adjusted if you change your tire circumference.

A big reason why your mileage is lower on the '03 is that it's about 500 lbs heavier than your '94.

I carried over 500# of equipment in the '94 and also I could pull a loaded U-Haul trailer plus a full load on the truck and with the overdrive locked out it would still make 15mpg consistantly.Oh well, so much for good memories.
