Wondering this myself , I'm contemplating a Quad 4 X 2 and wonder if this is strong enough to adequately push this vehicle , I know everybody says 4.7 but gas mileage is becoming a consideration at least 3.7 is rated at 22 on the highway .

To let you know....the 3.7's have i think 35 hp more than the 3.9's. My 3.9 is underpowered and that is why they have changed to the 3.7 i am having so much trouble with my 03 3.9L Tranny is all messed up shifting and Dodge knows about it and basically won't do anything about it.

I drive a 2001 3.9L Dakota and a 2003 3.7L Liberty. The Liberty with 210HP really moves along well. It's gotta be an improvement over the sluggish (especially at highway speeds) 3.9L.
I dont know what the specs are on torque ratings though. Hopefully it's geared right for the heavier Dakota.
I'm not real happy with my trucks power at highway speeds but it has plenty of torque for pulling my boat out on steep ramps. I wouldn't trust the little Liberty, 210HP or not, to pull my boat out at some places I go.

I have a 2004 Quad Cab 4X4 STX with 3.7, 5sp and 3.92 gears. I have only had it for a week. Power is big improvement over 3.9. Good torque with horsepower coming on above 3000 rpm. First tank of gas 18.5 mpg, mixed city and Hwy.
