Havent ya ever noticed that everybody compares the smallest engine available in a dakota to the biggest engine available in a ranger or an s-10, and then brag like hell when one of them is slightly faster than a dakota.
Never tried it, but i have to guess that my sxt can eat a 2.2 s-10's lunch.
Just my 2 cents.

I have tried it. My *3.9* can eat the Chevy's 2.2 and the Ford's 3.0 for lunch. Granted when I race the Chevy's with the 4.3 and the For'd 4.0s its always a close one- I've won some and lost some. But, as you said, why not race the same truck with the smallest available engine? Seems fair to me.

ONLY V6 ALRIGHT I USED TO HAVE A 89 RANGER 2.9 NOT AS FAST AS THE CHEVY 4.3 BUT A LOT FASTER THAN THE DODGE 3.9 WHAT A JOKE ALSO DODGE ARE THE BIGGEST POS AND THEY ARE SO UGLY JUST LIKE MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO DRIVE THEM QUIT CRYING, JUST STAND UP LIKE A MAN AND SAY DODGE SUCKS I WISH I NEVER BOUGHT ONE

you ask why I am in a dodge site well because I feel its right to tell the facts not have some dick dodge boy tell bull $hit story on how his pos 3.9 beat a chevy 4.3 or ford 3.0 if you want a truck to beat those get a silverado dont tell story you made up to make your truck sound fast and a dodge v8 up to a v6 maybe not any chevy or ford v8

My friend and his chevy 4.3 beat me once, but I stait up smoked a Ford Ranger with a 4.0, and I beat my dad in his Jeep Cherokee 4.0. I might add that I think chevy's are ugly as sh!t, all they did was round the front and cram an engine in it, If I remember right you have to remove the wheel to change the spark plugs, how wierd is that? Chevy's I can stand, but Ford owners need to get a life!

who really cares how you change the plugs on a chevy if thats even true I never had two do that chevy motors last forever and thats a fact! and ugly hey every one has the right to there own opinion but they always sell more chevys than dodge and yet again thats a FACT!

Well, maybe you take yours to the dealer to service, but I would prefer to have a motor I can work on. It may not be all that fast, or pretty (by your opinion, not mine), but I sure as hell ain't no rich boy, and Dodge at least makes them affordable, Chevy's are astronomically priced for the options you get. I have yet to see an S-10 with a V-6 for less than 24,000. Hell, I can get a dakota with a v-8 for that much. Ow and by the way, that 2.9 Ford, you are really smoking some good sh!t if you think that it is faster than a v-6 Dodge. I will say that the 2.9 Fords are a good LITTLE motor, but they can't match the Dodge for torque or for horse-power under the hood. And plus, if you like 4-baggers so much I got some great imports you can look at.

Hey psycho bob (scary) a dodge r/t 5.9 gets high 15 that sucks for you do a couple of moods to a chevy 4.3 and it will kick the r/t a$$ thats sad, 5.9 is junk as most dodge motors if I can only tell how many dodges I see take off and a cloud of white smoke pours out they make american cars look bad!

Well I don't know how fast you 239s run but I lay down a cool 12.273 on a bad day in the 1/4 mile. So Chevy and Ford have nothing on me!! DEATH TO ALL THAT IS NOT MOPAR!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK OK I can step in here and give my 2 cents Seeing as how I have A LOT of experience wtih Fords. I come from a large die hard family of ford lovers and most of my friends love fords. My friend owns a 4cyl ranger and his father owns a 4.0 v6 ranger. My dakota can beat both hands down. With my friends 4 banger its no contest really a joke and I dont see how you can come on here (john doe) and tell us a lie like youre old 4 banger beat on 3.9 dakotas. With my friends dads 4.0 ranger it was close when my truck was stock but I still got him. Off the line the 4.0 is a little quick seeing as how it has a little more torque than the 3.9 but its built strickly for towing and off roading(not really impressive horsepower when compared to the size of the engine and the output). I used to own a 3.0 v6 ranger, it was a great great truck. Ran for 122k miles till some dumb lady ran a red light and totaled it but I never had a single problem with the truck. I drove the hell out of it. Tell you the truth I think the only ranger that would give a 3.9 dakota a good run would be the 3.0. I have owned both and in my opinion the 3.9 is still a faster and stronger engine but it would deff be closer than if the 3.9 raced a 4 banger or a 4.0. As far as an over all truck I would go with the dakota. The ranger is a strong long lasting dependable truck but it rides like crap and has a small tight cab. The dakota rides a lot smoother than my ranger ever did and has all the room i need. The only bad thing i can ever say about the dakota is their auto trannys. I have heard a lot of problems occuring with the automatics. I havent had any problems with mine thus far accept adjusting the TV cable after installing my f and b throttle body. So theres my input. B.T.W. I still love fords so dont think im being biased. Im currently building a 69 mustang fastback with a 351 windsor that has been bored .030 over and stroked out to a 427. GOTTA LOVE MUSCLE! (no matter what company)

i have just bought a 95 dakota with a 3.9 5 speed. my father also owns a 96 ram 1500 with the same engine and they are both very powerful. The 96 has 203,000 miles with no problems yet and mine has 131,000 miles. my brother has serious head problems (he likes ford and thinks dodge sucks). he has a 95 ranger splash. will someone please explain to him that that it just don't get any better than a dodge?
