Subject: K&N...how much increase?
IP: Logged

Message:
I know that dropping in a K&N filter is a very common modification. Putting a K&N Intake (or another intake kit) is also a pretty common modification.

My questions are this:

How much increase in power do you get from just the filter? How much from the whole intake kit? (I don't race or anything, just wondering if I would be able to FEEL a difference).

Also, would putting the intake kit on void my warranty?

Thanks

i first replaced my stock air box with a 6X9 S&B air filter....just clamped it to the stock hose and hat...i could feel the computer adjust to that and when i got my exhaust it was that much better....i then saved my money up and bought the mopar cold induction kit from the dealer....it was well worth it...

Well, I bought the filter today. I had to argue with the idiots at Pep Boys today when they claimed that the K&N filter for a 97-99 dakota wouldn't fit a 01 dakota. Meanwhile, the Puralator listed the same filter for the two.

I haven't noticed anything yet. Except for the usual things you notice when you add anything of any value to your truck (even window stickers) -- such as smoother shifting, increase in performance, smoother ride, higher ground clearance, wider and more aggressive stance, and, of course, the feeling that the truck is new again (those all last for about 2-5 days, depending on the price of the modification you've made).

try removing the intake elbow from your box (where the air goes in the filter box)...that will help some more....less air restriction...give it a week, too...it takes time to let the computer to adjust.....but it won't be a sudden jolt... you will be use to it by the time everything starts working better....get a good flowing exhaust too....that will help it breath...

i put the 1517 on my v6 and i can tell a big difference in the throttle response and the horsepower, especially in second gear, and especially puttin it to the floor......the only thing that didn't work that came with the kit was the saddle bracket....the throttle body bolt is back too far for it to fit properly....i had to put it in a vice and bend it so it would fit onto the intake tube......not a big deal at all.....i dunno about the gas mileage yet, i filled up at the beginning of the week, and when my fuel light comes on i'll figure it up and see if i get any increases........o and it seems to shift gears a lot smoother even at high rpms......no jerk in the shift......
