Subject: 89 dak build v6 IP: Logged
Message: I've been noting all of the V6 chat back and forth for building up the Gen 2 V6s. Everything seems to be for them. I however have the 89 model 4WD convertible sport. I don't want to slice and dice it, but just want to add a bit more power to it. So far the only thing I've seen are headers. Is there anything else out there that I can get? The 1.7 rockers seem to only be for the later engines, are they available for the 89 model? What about a roller cam? Anybody make one for this engine?

Message: Not a stump puller, just wanted to have a little more get up and go in the 40 to 70 range. There's just not a lot of torque there.

Message: mopar performance-cam part#p4452806,valve springs#p4286813,intake#p4452114,ignition#4529402 and 4bbl carb this should yeild 30-40hp gain
cam#p4452808 or p4452810,headers,port heads,3.91 axle gears,other 20-40hp up the compression to 9.5to1-10to1
you can get 200-240hp on your premag
try hughes engines .com
also get a set of roller rockers and shafts for the LA motor and cut the shafts to lenght for your v6er[no one makes them for the v6s]this will free up a few hp,go with 1.6s even more hp
good luck

Message: I think the more I read the more I'm confused. The camshaft from mopar performance is tappet, not hydraulic roller. That means I would have to change push rods, etc. According to the service manual, the rockers are already at 1.6 ratio, so I'm thinking that the roller still would come out better even stock if I could find the 1.7 rockers, right? Now what about throttle bodies, I see a bit of chat about that as well, should I even attempt? And the headers, geeze, mopars are race headers, so they won't pass emissions testing which I have here, so that means the edelbrock brand at twice the price!! Do we have any low buck ideas out there??

Message: sorry about the cams,i forgot.
but the premag motors[87-91] have a 1.5 rocker ratio.more likly 1.45.
so the 1.6s will help.
the headers can have a bung welded in for the o2 sensor.
contact hughes engine .com,if you send them your cam they will do a regrid for under $190
check their sight for same cam spec and info
again sorry

Message: Thanks Vern, I think I'm "rockin" now! Edelbrock has the nicer headers, I'll probably shoot for those as I save up.

Message: I have a bunch of v6 parts new and used if you want. It is all off an 87 dakota. The heads I have are ported with bigger stainless valves. I have a pair of shafts special made from harland sharp with 1.7 rockers. I also have the mopar performance four barrel intake. I also custom made a windage tray off a 340. The rotating assembly is .030 over pistons, the rods are reconditioned with arp bolts, and the crank is ballanced. I also have a brand new cam and lifter package for it. Cheap
If you need any thing let me know.
