Subject: some maintinence questions IP: Logged
Message: Ok, you guys have mentioned replacing the cap and rotor with aftermarket units. Are there any particular brands or stores that I should be using?
Is there any real advantage to upgrading to bigger wires if I dont use an MSD?
Are the 3923 platinum plugs worth the upgrade from my current 3923 coppers?
Is there anywhere that wont charge my $150 for the damn O2 sensor?
I still have yet to find the crank sensor on the back of the engine. Any tips?
I guess that's about it for now. Thanks for the help fellas.

Message: And to follow up with that: are you guys just talkin about those better parts when replacing OEM at tune-up time (versus using the cheaper stuff) or are you talking about those being an upgrade we should do right away cause the OEM stuff isn't brass?
I know I could pull my cap off and see for myself but knowing what a pain people say it is I'd rather not do it unless I was going to change it.
So should I be "upgrading" now or just make sure I use the good stuff when I do a tune-up.
Oh yeah and this is cause mine is an 03 with 300 miles so it is a while before the tune-up but I'll upgrade right now if I need to :)

Message: go to napa. i paid 42.00 for my o2 sensor. make sure you get the right one. there are 2. one before the cat and one after. get the cap and rotor at napa to. it is a borg-warner with brass inserts. yes it is worth it. i replaced my plugs with the auto lite and put an msd ignition. it runs great and runs a heell of a lot cooler than it did before. the crank sensor comes out of the back of your distributor and goes to the back of the engine.

Message: The solid brass cap and rotor will transfer more
voltage than Alm.
MO26 and MO28 at Napa $15
Your stock wires are fine even with a MSD multi
spark box but if you upgrade the coil than you
need to change the wires.
There is a small advantage to using the platnum
tip AP3923, you can run a bigger gap to
propogate a bigger flame front and faster burn
bigger explosion
Due to the lower resistance it takes to fire the
plug you can go anywhere from .005 to .010 over
factory specs.
I am running AP3923 at .060 with my MSD system,
at .048 the standard plug ran to hot due to the
large gap. Drop a set in and gap them at .048
you will hear and feel the dif
The crank sensor is right behind the pass side
head and not so easy to get to

Message: Guys, thanks for the quick and informative responses. I think I'm all set to go get that brass rotor and platinum plugs. I guess I should've clarified the O2 sensor thing. I've already replaced the one after the cat with a Bosch unit but my fuel mileage sucks lately so I would like to swap out the other one as well but its about $150 everywhere I go. Havent tried Napa yet, they dont have alot of them around my area (Flint,MI)
