Subject: J & J - 1.7 install IP: Logged
Message: Larry:
I have installed my 1.7 rockers on my 98 Dakota ext cab v-6 with 130,000 miles on it. I have driven it about 300 miles and it runs great but I noticed that it is using oil. The oil was changed after the install and it is down over over 1/2 a quart. I am guessing that it is due to build up on the valve stems that are now being pushed deeper in to the valve seals. Will this clear up or am I ready for new seals?

Message: Thanks Larry:
I will give that a try and see what happens. I made sure that the baffels were open on both ends so I don't think that that could be a problem. the truck really pulls well now. Not too far from my house there is a long slow grade after the freeway crosses a river. Stock my truck would down shift twice with the cruise control set on 65 mph. with the superchip, K&N and Dynomax it would downshift once. Now with the 1.7's it does not downshift at all. I can't wait to see what happens when I get the f&b throttle body on it.

Message: The maximum power program. I am running 91 to 93 octane with no pinging. Now that I have run it 300 miles with the 1.7's my fuel mileage seems to be greatly improved. Hopefuly it will make up the 22 cent diference in cost. Before the rocker install my mileage had actually dropped. from 18 city/21.8 Highway to 16 city/ 20 highway.

Message: I did it my self. I had guessed it would take about 5 hours but since I could not round up any help when I was trying to get the cylinders to TDC to set the valves it took 8 hours. I know that is slow but I tried to follow the instruction very carefuly.

Message: The 1.7's will really help with crusing power
that is why you will get better milage with them
as long as you keep your foot out of the new power.
1800 on up across the whole rpm range you gain
about 18 to 20 hp and 25 torque at the rear wheels
very noticeable especaly after a few hundred miles
and they are tuned in

Message: To big,
The intake tube will not change that either, stick
with the V6 mod body or trade the ported V8 body
to someone on the V8 board and get a reg V8 body
If you use a V8 Body Bolt On As Is
