Subject: Alternator question IP: Logged
Message: I've got a '91 3.9L V6 and need to change the alternator. Before I start, does anyone have any tips on getting the belt back on? Looks like that'll be the only tricky part, as I have to take a few things off to get it back on the pulleys. I've never changed an alternator which required me to remove any other parts before.

Message: You will find the tensioner right under the Alt
just take a braker bar and socket to releave the
tension and do the same to reinstall the belt
Go right on the tensioner pully bolt and push or
pull

Message: I think it has a threaded tensioner right under the alternator. Take a wrench and turn the bolt to the left.... After you turn it about 15 times you will notice that it does not get any looser. At this point tap the slide with a hammer or something to break it loose. (don't use your rachet to pound) After this just slide the belt over the top of the pully... Then take the alt off using the bolts you can see and replace it with the new one... After this do the steps you just did to take it off backwards, heh... And for god sakes disconnect the battery before you do anything.
