Message: It is supposed to be torqued to 185 ft lbs and if you are reuseing the old nut use some Loc-Tite thread locker. Probably the red would work fine.

Message: I am getting ready to replace both of the front wheel bearing assemblys on my 2003 Dakota. I have called every auto parts store in the area. Price ranges were from $82.00 - $159.99 each side. I have finally found my assemblys (Timken) online at Auto Parts Warehouse for $68.88 with free shipping. I am a woman and yes I am going to attempt to do this myself. Can anyone tell me how difficult this will actually be? Have never done it before. I can do brakes pads (showed my husband how to do that...lol), and tune ups but have never attempted something like this. I refuse to be ripped off by the local mechanic again. Already have one car that is parked because of him ($400 - $500 estimate turned out to be over $1000 for a new flywheel and they crimped the rear main seal where the oil just pours out of it). Any advice will be appreciated.

Message: Amy, I think the hardest thing you'll run into is removing that 32mm nut that holds the hub on. The manual says to replace the spindle nut and not reuse it but, a lot of post on here about reusing it with some Locktite.
And I think it has to be torqued to 185 ft/lbs.
This is a 2wd truck I am talking about. You didn't say if yours was 2WD or 4WD.

Message: I just had my brakes and rotors replaced for the first time a few weeks ago on my 2003 Dakota (2WD, ~72K mi). Now there's a squeek when I brake. There's brake dust all over the front driver wheel, too. The guy as the shop said the squeeking is caused by the wheel bearing allowing the rotor to vibrate and shake. His remedy is to replace the bearings on both sides for $600 or the worse side for half that. Is his assessment correct or are there other potential (and cheaper) remedies?

Message: Hi Erin
If the bearings were bad they would have seen it when doing the rotors. Did this so called shop happen to mention it then? If not my guess is they did not install the rotors correctly and possibly damaged 1 or both bearings. I would start by having someone else take a look at your truck.
