Message: I have a 3.9 5 speed 01 4 w-drive Dakota. My problem is the engine lifters make noise some times and don't other times? The mileage on the vehicle is about 33,000. I change oil every 3,000 miles. The dealer can not find anything wrong, they tell me it is normal for that engine to make loud lifter noise and its under warranty. This is my first Dodge and I'm thinking about driving a Ford again.

Message: It might not be your lifters---if you mean that tapping noise coming from your engine...it could be merely the fuel injectors. They make a noise that one could feel is a rogue or just noisy lifter.
My 2001 3.9 did it, as well as my new 5.9 R/T.
