Message: My dad is puting my incharge of rebuilding his 91 Dodge Dakota 4x4 extended cab. The 3.9 is getting a little worn out and will need a rebuild. My Dad is also looking for a little bit more performance. He and I have both decided that it would make things easier if we can stick with the stock auto tranny. Im looking at a decent build up on the 3.9 or maybe swapping in a 318. Somewhere between 200 to 250hp is the goal, will the stock tranny stand up to that for daily driving?

Message: Yes, It's the same tranny they use on the Ram.
It's an A500 which isn't Mopar's best decision anyway. If your not having any trouble with it now, Add a Tranny Cooler! it will extend years & miles to the tranny. Also Cut that dang Thermal Valve off the line, It will do wonders.
Good Luck,
Shank

Message: you might want to put a shift kit in it while your at it. it will extend the life also and give you a good hard shift to boot.
