Subject: engine not starting IP: Logged
Message: Hello to all! Just wanted to see if someone could help me out here. I have been looking in past post's and I can not find the same problem that I'm having. Problem: This morining I went out to start up my 92 Dakota 2WD with a 169k on a 3.9L. At first it fired up with no problems, I moved it and then came back out 20mins later to take off. As I turn the key over it sounded like it was going to start just fine, but it would not fire. I kept trying a little to get it to fire up and it did a few times, but when it did fire up the engine back fired a few times and stalled itself out, ran really rough too. I checked the gas line, getting gas by the fuel pump, getting spark from the wires, but it still will not start/fire up. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know, I'm pulling my hair out at this point. Thanks,
Bshaw

Message: Yea, we checked the codes. In a 92 it blinks the check in engine light in sequence, like 15 13 55. The codes were all just simple start up codes though, according to a Haynes book. Codes really did not tell us anything.

Message: http://www.dakota-truck.net/CGI-BIN/DakotaCodes.cgi Try that for all pre 97 dakota codes. MUCH better list of faults than Haynes could ever think about listin.

Message: Just for the record I wanted to add this in if anyone in the future has the same problems! Thanks for the link Jody, those codes give a more detailed message but they were still normal start up codes.
So we replaced the coil, thinking that maybe the spark was not strong enough but this did not work either. Our other option was to buy a Nood Light(i belive that's what thier called), this thing test's the injectors to see if there getting signal from the computer to fire right. So basicallly we were testing the computer to make sure it was still good. Well every single injector was getting signal just fine. After 3 days of not figuring this out, why it would not start we had it towed to a shop. Within that day, they called us back and said that it was the Timing Chain. We would of never figured this out!! I thought this was super weird, never even considered that it could be something like this to keep the truck from starting. Problem sovled though!!!!!!
