Hello all, I have posted here a while back. Now I have a few new questions.

I have a 1997 Dakota Ext Cab 4X4.

What would cause a gas gauge to stop working? Right now, I filled it up this morning, and it shows a full tank, but when it is empty it shows around 1/4 tank. I haven't heard the low fuel warning in 6 months.

Also, when you remove the gas cap isn't it supposed to make a hissing noise like it's letting off pressure? Mine doesn't, it used to though. What would cause that?

One more, is it ok to run the truck without a cat converter?

Thanks for your time.

I just changed the fuel pump on my 94 3.9. It took my friend & I about an hour to pull off the bed & another 45 min to change the pump. My friend works at a Dodge dealer and I've had him do the work on it when it was under warranty. He dropped the tank then and said it would be easier to pull off the bed. The level sender, the pump, and the filter are all one piece and if you don't line up the arrow on the pump & and the tank, your readings won't be right. Dealer wanted $330, Auto Zone - $150. I had my level sender fixed when it was under waranty still & it went bad within a couple of years. It would give me the low light but the guage didn't work. Watch out too because if you drive it low, your new level could be different. I ran outa gas the first time I let it go low!

The truck will run with no converter but you might
lose some back presure and low end.

Just take the guts out of the cat and reinstal
if you live where they do emission tests it needs
to be there they will look.

There is a carbon canister and a valve on the gas
tank vent on the drivers side check the hoses and
elec connections this may be causing the presure
prob you mentioned

On the gas guage, check the connections by the
tank if ok you need to replace the sending unit
by removing the pump from the tank which means
dropping the gas tank out
