Stock and an Automatic makes it impossible in my opinion. But I had a 4x4 Club Cab SXT with Auto and 3.92s w/ no limited slip rear. Only time I could squeal was wet roads and power braking.

I just bought, a few months ago, a 4x4 Quad Cab 4.7 V8 with a 5spd manual and I now have no problems squealin' the tires, even with limited slip differential. But, I almost never squeal them anyway, those 265s I have are $$$ to replace!

Mine will spin the tires of the line once in a while, probaly because of dirt on the tires. Yes it does depend on the gearing but also has something to do with how much the truck weighs. The motor isnt weak, the suckers just weigh a lot.

I have 2001 3.9L with no mods to the engine and even a Leer camper top on the bed and mine still squel the tires nicely. Also mine is manual so that may have something to do with it. I can create just as much smoke as a friend of mine who has an 84 Chevy 1500 with a 350, automatic.

The truck has 127K on it and is running strong if not stronger then the day it was purchased

Oh I forgot to mention its also an extended cab. Cole, its not that these engines dont generate enough power its, as dakSlt2000 mentioned, the weight of these trucks.

FIPK (fuel injection performance kit). Its designed to promote less of a restriction then the factory air housing.

They will flow alot better then the factory one which in turn generates more power.

Does anyone have an inexpensive method of improving the low end power? What would be the best thing to get first that is under 200. I have a glass pack muffler, but I havent put it on and I dont really think that i will.

u can start by putting a real muffler on the truck and then get a v8 throttle body and make a cold air intake and relocate the ait to the cold air intake should b no more then 180

What kind of muffler would you suggest? I got the glass packed just for kicks, and i just never got around to putting it on, i know that won't do anything for power.

cole, a lot of people around here use a Dynomax 17748 muffler. you want to keep a some backpressure on the exhaust or you'll lose low end.

Where online can you buy that muffler, or do most shops around town carry it? How much is it by the way?

I think my Dakota's a little bit of a Dog as well. I know they are heavy, but if the engine isn't enough for the weight then Dodge needs to make a change. I know alot of the guys on this site love tinkering w/ their trucks to find the extra juice, and that is a hobby I respect, just not into. For those like me I do wish my Dakota came stock with more power, it is a bit disapointing at times.
