Subject: Superchips is it the best bang for the b IP: Logged
Message: Hi I have an 03 CC with a 3.9 and auto trans. Money is tight right now and I have read alot of posts about modifications to improve both performance and MPG. The only thing I have done to my Dakota is a K&N drop in filter and a tonneau cover. I was wondering if the superchips tuner would give me a greater improvement in MPG and pickup, than spending the same amount of money on other things IE CAI ETC.
Also I have visited the superchips web site ,but it really doesn,t explain what the tuner changes , so can somebody explain what chages it makes , thanks for your help

Message: aloha my friend,
i did my homework with the Dak 3.9L V6 and the Superchips tech said that if you got like alot of bolt ons you won't get a noticeable change on your truck. i'd go to Kenne Bell for a chip mod. call them and fill out thier form to see how they can modify your truck.
Mahalo,

Message: Kenne Bell does not make a optimiser 2 for the 3.9
only the V8's
What the tunner does is give you more timing and
fuel for more power, with the mods you have it
would work good but you need to run better fuel
some are getting away with 89 but if you get any
ping go to 92 93

Message: ok heres my superchip experience.......... buddy of mine with a 00 v-6 auto cc bought one. he had a intake and thats about it. worked ok but nothing to brag about (he doens;t race so i don;t have comparison times) he pinged when running 93.but he also wasn;t running a 180t-stat. so he sold it to me. at that time i had a cam, 1.6 rockers, v-8tb, 3.92 gears, 180 tstat, jba headers, flowmaster, and afew other lil things....... i added that tuner, ran the performance program and cut 4/10th off my time.pretty mugh the only thing i didn;t have was a computer program and superchips fixed that. so i can;t complain. i love it. one of my better purchases. runnin 15.17@87mph and i jsut added a new exhuast so we'll see. but that tuner was a huge help. hope this helps you decide

Message: Like Scotty, I wrote to Superchips asking about their Microtuner 3715. I informed them of my bolt on mods and they wrote back saying they do not offer a custom programmed Mircotuner for my vehicle. I wrote bsck asking if the performance program on the stock microtuner would provide any gains and they have yet to write back. So I decided to go with 1.7 crower roller rockers for performance.
BTW, I know this is the wrong subject thread but maybe Larry or someone could describe pushing or bashing the baffles on the valve covers, a 1/4 inch. Anyone have pics? Thanks.

Message: get a vise and two peices of 2x2. cut them jsut long enough to fit in the cover. then proceed to crush. push them a lil then test fit it. keep that up untill they no longer hit.

Message: Thanks Greg555,
I don't have a vice yet. I figured I could just place the covers on the floor with a towel. I guess I don't need to use a hammer and puh down on the 2x2s or 2x4. Are the baffles the same length of the valve cover? I haven't seen the inside of the valve cover so I'm just guessing. I'm hoping someone may have pics of modified cover. Thanks for the advice.
Also, I guess you recommend the Superchips Micro Tuner 3715. I think I have the nearly the same mods as you do. So the Micro tuner helped. I was disappointed when Superchips haven't written back to me. I thought that was a negative reply to my querry. Since, I already purchase the 1.7 rockers, I have to wait until next year to flash the PCM. I'm also trying to mod my 94 Mazda 626.
