Subject: PCV rattles loud when truck is running?? IP: Logged
Message: On my 95 3.9 I just put a new PCV and a new hose but it rattles really loud when the truck is running. When I put my hand on it, I can actually feel the rattle. What would cause this?
I pulled it out of the vavle cover when the truck was running and it definately has a lot of suction but the loud rattling noise just wont stop.

Message: LOL
The first time I ran into that I thought the Alt
was rattling.
Its caused by a small leak on the belly pan gaskit
on the bottom of the manifold.
Not worth the time it takes to fix untill it
starts to effect the actual running of the motor
than you need to pull the intake and replace the
gaskit and or go to the Alm billit cover.
The reason they start to leak is the diff in
expansion and contraction from the steel cover
and the Alm manifold, it destroys the gaskit
after time

Message: larry thank's for the info I too have the same problem with my 96.3.9 my question is would you think that changing the turkey pan can be done with just common sense? I'm not a mechanic by no means but I try to do wehatever I can to my truck.I would be more affraid of messing up the injector's wouldn't you have to remove all top component's to get the intake off?

Message: Yes it will be fine,
To remove the intake you do not need to remove the
injectors or fuel rails just disconect the line
and all the cables and wires than remove the
manifold
Be sure you pull one of the block drains on the
side below the exh or you will get coolent in
the motor, and anytime you do that you should
warm up the engine when done and change the oil
and filter right away because there is no way
you can avoid getting some dirt in the motor
when pulling the manifold no matter how hard you
try not to

Message: chop -- your new pcv valve is junk --go get a new one that is not junk- it rattled due to excessive manufacture clearance-- thi s doesn't hurt anything major - but it is not as tight as it should be when shutting down to idle speed or near idle-- before you pull your intake go get a new, quality pcv valve -- the correct one for your year and engine

Message: Started the truck today and it seems to have solved itself, the new one doesnt rattle anymore. The rattling i hear was actually the cruise control ticking while i was on the road trip i went on.. (TSB on this??)
the other one that i pulled out, i put back in to see if it would still rattle, and it did, but looking inside it, it looked like higher quality (inside metal deal was machined) and it had a blue upper housing...
but no, the new one doesnt rattle anymore...

Message: Sorry to sound a bit slow. I know where the pcv is and what looks like. I`m just curious to what the importance of this peice is. Can someone fill me in here? I didn`t realize that some are better then others. I own a 1989 3.9, any differences I should know?
