check the vacuum lines & the hard plastic connectors. Any leak and the whole system malfunctions.

How are you checking for vacuum, the EGR does
not have a constant vacuum and is not on at all
times.

Only when triggered

In all my years working on these trucks I have never
replaced a transducer, lots of EGR vacuum valves
yes.

The best thing to do is first check all the electrical
and vacuum connections and the vacuum diaphragm
itself. You can do that with a piece of vacuum line
just put it on the pot and suck on the hose and stick
your tongue on the hose and be sure it remains stuck
to your tongue for a while, that will tell you if you have
a hole in the diaphragm, if so replace it.

Of course I use a hand held vacuum pump a more
civilized way but not everyone has a vacuum pump.

Another thing that could be wrong is the plunger
itself is stuck from carbon build up, you need to
remove the valve from the manifold to check
that, clean with carb cleaner and make sure it
goes up and down ok.

Plugged manifold EGR ports.

Blown gasket on the base of the valve

The EGR code can also be triggered by a carbon
up IAT sensor or a bad bar in the map sensor, a
plugged EGR tube from the exhaust.

When the EGR is triggered there needs to be a slight
increase in temp read by the IAT and a slight vacuum
drop read by the map sensor.

Another thing that will trigger the EGR code is not
having enough back pressure to force the exhaust
back up the tube, a gutted cat or no cat will cause
that.

I have also seen where the cat was plugged or
restricted and the heat backed up and melted the
valve itself to the point where it will not operate.

The valve is triggered by the computer and the
ported vacuum port in conjunction with the O2
reading to cold a temp will set it off lean out
the mixture and raise the temp back up to keep
the burn at a desired temp to keep down the
NOX gasses, part of the emissions control

There are many things that can give you the
EGR code you just need to start checking the
simple things and keep going until you find the
actual cause for getting the code.

That is why these new mechanics can not fix things
they plug in there diagnostic computer it says
nothing is wrong yet the customer still has the same
complaint, they are not taught and do not understand
how and why these OBD systems work

I recently began losing power in my engine for no apparent reason. Next thing I know I've ruptured the EGR transducer and there's exhaust coming out in the engine comp through there. I don't know much about this system and can't afford to take it in to a mechanic. Any ideas what might have caused this to happen?

There is no exh at the transducer only vacume.

The only way exh can escape is if the gasket
between the manifold and valve is blown out.

This happens when the cat is pluged and the heat
and presure backs up this would also explain your
power loss

Flow test, remove the vac line from the trancducer
that runs from the valve start the truck let idle
now just suck on the line the motor will slow down
or die. EGR OK transducer shot.

You can only buy the transducer seporate from
chrysler.

Best way to go Checker auto parts america
http://www.partsamerica.com/default.asp

Niehoff Ignition FE3040 matched transducer and
valve $79.99 and be done with it take the # off
your old 1 with you.

anywhere else they will be about $200

I was in a rush to leave, yes there is exh presure
line that runs to a diaphram at the bottom of the
transducer

The short rubber line could be off have a hole in
it or the dia itself may have a hole.
