Subject: S-Bolt "Mod" IP: Logged
Message: I bought 2 ft. ( Yes, I make lots of mistakes...) of 1/4" threaded rod for the extreme HP gains of the S-Bolt "Mod"...question now. How the hell can I get that bent so precise?! How'd you guys do it? You use a pulley type piece and pry the rod against it with a lil leverage or what? I noticed on dakota-durango.com where they tell ya how to do the s-bolt mod that it'd give you about 5 hp...that's not true right? I was expecting no gains, except I could fit the edelbrock air cleaner on that I'm wanting:) I think I'm gonna be buying a membership here soon. Just need a few more bucks.

Message: Oh yeah... another question. Is the 4 1/2 inch length all I'll need for it to fit the Edelbrock air cleaner or will I wanna leave it a lil longer just to be sure? Or is 4 1/2 inches pretty much the max lentgh I can have sticking up without putting an S bolt through my hood? :)

Slow97Dakota, I was just stating the truth there. I just felt that I worded those questions well enough that the people here could understand what I was asking. I made it fairly obvious that I've got the description of the S bolt "mod" but I still had questions regarding it that weren't answered on the site.
1.) How to bend the 1/4" rod as precisely as the picture shows
2.)Whether or not the S bolt "mod" really would give 5 HP like Dakota-Durango.Com says (I was figuring No, but what do I know?)
3.)Whether that 4 1/2" bolt length was long enough for the Edelbrock air cleaner or if it'd be better for me to leave it a tad longer (if it didn't hit/go into my hood when I closed it).

Message: Hey Josh,
Does it give 5hp??? Don't know... I'd did a bunch other crap the same time. If you look at what the purpose of it is, it help hp, but I couldn't tell you how much for sure.
How to bend it??? I do allot of metal fabs so I have all the cool toys. The easiest way would be to use a vice, a rag, and a protractor. Use the rag to wrap where you put the all-thread in the vice. Use the protractor to measure the degrees as you bend it. That's about it. Not to complicated.
Leave more??? Since you are going to use the Edlebrock air cleaner, use a wing nut to hold it down. With the rod, I'd leave a little extra on the top end just in case.
Hope that actually answers your questions, smarty pants. ;-)

Buck

I finished bending that rod. Took me bout an hour since I couldn't find a protractor to check the 35* angle and I don't have a vice to bend it. I ended up using a flat pry bar and it worked out quite nicely. I just need to saw it off at the right length tomorrow and it's all set.

Message: 00dak,
I'm not doing it for performance. I'm doing it because I'm getting an Edelbrock air cleaner and my current bolt is too short, so I'm gonna do an S bolt because it's the easiest to do. I never planned on any power gains at all, but noticed that.

Message: This is for anyone who's got one of those Edelbrock chrome air cleaners... It'll be the 10" one. How tall should I make my S bolt to fit the Edelbrock air cleaner, not the stock one? Is the 4 1/2" in the directions good or will that just be equal to what I got now (too short)?

this really isn't a tough thing to figure out,
let me know how it works
