Subject: Oil Pressure IP: Logged
Message: Went to work two days ago and my truck lost all oil pressure. Limped to a nearby garage. The sending unit and oil pump was replaced. When I picked the truck up, 40lb pressure was all it would have. The mechanic seemed to think the gauge may have went out too. The next day, no oil pressure. At lunch I tried it and it came up to 40lbs. Borrowed a scan tool and it showed 70lbs when the gauge would hardly read. Can this just be a gauge or the pcm going bad? Anyone have an experience like this?

Message: I've been down that road with my truck. These trucks are known for having oil psi problems.
Before you jump to any conclusions install a mechanical oil pressure gauge. About $20.
Then you can make an informed decision about what's wrong.
My aftermarket gauge reads different than the factory gauge, allot different.

Message: there are a number of things that could cause you oil pressure to be low..i would start with the cheap items like the oil filter make sure its not clogged..gaskets on the oil pan and pump..there are also other things such as worn valves, lifters, piston rings and so on...all these things will cause you to read low oil pressure..

Message: My gauge shows no oil pressure most of the time. A Snapon scantool shows the pressure at 70lbs. The oil pump, oil filter, and oil are new. The motor has just over 40k with oil and filter changes at 3k. The gauge cluster passes the onboard diagnostic tests. Can it be the PCM telling the gauge the pressure is gone? Just wondering if anyone had this problem and what they did to correct it.

Message: I have a 01 3.9 4wd Dakota with about 33,000 miles on the truck. The problem i'm having is some days I hear lifter noise and other times I dont. The dealer can't find anything wrong they just tell me the motor is strong and the truck is under warranty. I change oil every 3,000 miles. This is my first Dodge and thinking about driving Fords again, HELP.

Message: A few seconds of lifter noise is normal at startup. You might try different brands of oil filter. Some have better check valves in them to hold a little more pressure overnight. I have new lifters in mine and still get some lifter noise at startup. Good luck.

Message: Staw away from the cheap frams
Wix from carquest is a good filter
K&N HP2004 good filter
Also the Napa gold built by baldwin
On the cheap filters the check valve is made from
cardboard and leak down and will give you lifter
noise on cold starts
