Subject: PCM UPGRADE HELP!!!!! IP: Logged
Message: Aloha dudes and duddettes,
As some of you know i'm upgrading my PCM and so far i'm looking at Kenne Bell http://www.kennebell.net/accessories/optimizerII/optimizer2.htm
i have a 2000 Dodge Dakota V6 3.9L engine with alot of bolt ons. This is what I have so far: K&N Cold Air Intake, JBA Ceramic Headers, no Cat, straight pipe, Flowmaster Delta 40 series single in dual out, O2 sensor upgrade IAT style, FordMotorSport fuel injectors 19lbs, MSD wires, Autolite plugs, B&M Trans Cooler, TransGo shift kit, and Borg Warner Cap and Rotor. Mods by the end of next month will be a ported intake manifold(by Greg), installing a MSD 6AL with MSD Coil, and a higher 165 watt alternator.
my question is when trying to make my order of the PCM Kenne Bell they asked for my "REV LIMIT DESIRED" and "SPEED LIMIT DESIRED". i basically don't know what they are talking about.how will i make a decision? a copy of the data form is on the web site. any help is appreciated.
Mahalo,
Scotty

Message: they are asking what to set the maximum amount of rpms your engine will be able to do before the computer limits it. It will also set a maximum speed that the truck can go.
Factory you have a rev limiter around 5000-5500 rpms and a governor around 110 mph. With the stock camshaft in the motor, you wont really make power after 4800 rpms. So, i would just have them leave that stock unless you plan on changing out the camshaft later.

I would like to get one if they made it for the V6.

Message: The Kenne Bell Optimizer II is a great product but Kenne Bell feels that there is no interest in a performance 3.9 V6 so they don't make one. Which is odd, why would someone want to make a Caravan faster? LOL
Maybe we should start a post to see what the interest is. If we get enough, maybe they would make one.

Message: I have only read about a couple of guys saying positive things. I think Superchips is the only PCM flash for our 6. Can any users provide feedback about performance gains and better mpgs. The other thread seems to be going south. Thanks.
BTW I thought stock rev limiter was set at 4800 rpm. Am I wrong? I set my Accel 300+ ignition rev limiter at 4850.

Message: I have had the Superchips tuner program installed in by 98 ext cab v-6 Dakota for about a week it is installed for max power and requiers 91 octane fuel. The only other mods are K&N drop in and a Dynomax 77748. The truck feels like it is now a muscle car you don't have to give it much throttle for it to move out. so far the mileage looks like it will be about the same be cause I can;t keep my foot out of the gas. It is just too tempting. varooooom

Message: Aloha everyone!
i just got off the phone with both places, Kenne Belle and Superchips. the Kenne Belle tech said that they could flash the PCM with all my upgrades. remember i got a V6 3.9L, and the guy at Superchips said that the PCM they have woudn't do jack again cause of the mods.

And I will respond to this one as well.
I have banged my head up against the wall
numerous times trying to get someone to re-
program my '94 computer. I'm not sure
about the year of your vehicle, but if you're
in the same boat I'm in, you're pretty much
stuck with what you have. I was lucky a
couple of years ago when Superchips used to
do my application, but they no longer do.
The only one I know that does is ASE chips,
and they Left the country to do their bus-
iness in Mexico (Thank you, Governor Gray
Davis). I am in the process of trying to
get my computer up to speed with current
modifications that I have done.

Message: hey Greg,
what about the detonation? yes no? they ask about the "RPM IT OCCURS"? and what is the "SPEED LIMIT DESIRED" they ask? with that they also ask "WAIVER MUST BE SIGNED!! IF YOUR CURRENT MPH CUTPFFIS 96MPH, WE HAVE TO RAISE IT"? I will be installing a MSD 6AL soon and they ask for the "RETARD: YES NO"? any help is appreciated. oh and i replied to you to your email about the ported intake manifold.

Message: For a 92 to 95 you can get a mopar PCM if you can
find one.
There are a lot of guys using the perfict power
SMT6 on the mopars that alows you to adjust fuel
and timming via laptop and software with a piggy
back set up. Its what I will be going to when I
get my turbo setup on my truck.
http://www.perfectpower.com/
I have an ASE and it works good but as you said
they are no longer doing them in the US
KRC also used to do the 92 to 95 comps but will
no longer flash them
Westers garage out of canada also might still do
the V6
http://westers_garage.eidnet.org/scprice.htm
The Apexi works very well for fuel only.

Message: The MSD does not change timing its just a multi
strike capacitive discharge system.
The computers on these trucks will adjust to a lot
of mods to a point after that you need to play
with the timing and fuel.
All the basic bolt ons will be compansated for
but once you start going beond that, cam's
stroker crank higher comp there is just not
enough in the base program to run the motor right
The Mopar PCM has better fuel and timing curves
and will run more mods Its running my stroked and
ported V6 the stock computer would not and leaned
out real bad over 3000 rpm that is why I had the
Apexi fuel controler with my stock computer
