Subject: Tore Reverse out IP: Logged
Message: Me and my buddies took this 6 cyl. Dakota 5 spd. (has over 200,000 miles on it) out, and we were givin it the "stress test" - didnt do that bad... although we were proceding with a reverse burn out - it was turning about 5,000 rpm's when we popped the clutch and it spun at first then did the typical wheel hop, only it was really thrashing all over the place so we stopped. We tried to back up and it wouldnt take the shift so we jammed it in - and tried to back up, it chattered and clunk and threw it right out of gear. It'll go in Rev. if we hold it in, but it still clunks screams and chatters. Anybody know what kind of $$ and time changing the Rev. gear is gonna take?? any help i appreciate. thanks

Message: OH MY GOD!!! Why would you purposely ruin a truck you plan on fixing?? Anyways, transmission work is usually expensive. I'm gonna say over $400, but this is a guess. I had my automatic tranny rebuilt with a shift kit installed for $530, so that is my rough guess.

Message: Hey man, why would you want to do a reverse burnout? And why is this an important step in seeing what the truck can do? Also, what's the purpose of a stress test? Obviously there is only one way to see how much stress it can take, and that's to break it. Hope it was worth it.

Message: heh u guys like ur chevy go ahead and keep em how come my little v6 can beat the pants off a 350 the v6 is only 253. big dif there and this guy had more mods then i he had muffler intake ignition blah blah blah (i thought shut up and race) in the end i kicked his a$$ thats all that mattered to me
and here some more info he got mad and said well my trucks bigger so i took my tape measure and found out same size but mine was heavier his was manual mine was auto he had a box cover i didnt
and during the race i ran ac he didnt have ac his was 2 wheel dr mine was 4 wheel dr
i was not running nos i didnt have forced induction just muffler intake iat relocate and advanced ignition timing heh and i did it in a quad
this truck aint bad i put 4000 on back then put a 4000 pound trailer on. at the dump i was over 12000 lbs whats that u say i was over the 6000 gvwr yeah i was i was over 8000 lbs so thats 1 ton over gvwr every chevy i seen try to do that had something break ha ha well now u know the truth and why a chevy will always be just a sh!t kicker or atleast the guy driving it

Message: well not to many people know how to tune a truck
i dont have a dyno here so i cant find what my horses are
i cant even get close to my fathers 460 (4 barrel carb and its a ford) that i also tuned heh he gets 10 mpg pulling a trailer with 4.10s yeah i still cant believe it but its true heh
my little dakota v6 only gets 12.9 avg mpg and not to many people get it that low i hate the mpg of this thing but its a beast
it wont beat this 302 ford that thing will kick my butt any day also tuned nicely (owned by me heh)from what i found out when i messed with vehicles is 1 its how they are tuned and 2 it was how they were designed and chevy just doesnt have it under the hood or atleast the engines ive tuned
after i beat the guy (and after he wasnt so mad)he wanted me to tune his truck up and do what i did to the 460 and 302 (just a simple carb tune by ear since he didnt want me to touch anything else) the next race it was an even race until we ran outta road heh it was some high speeds there heh
some people call it the magic touch i say no its not it comes down to velocity and knowing what sounds to listen for
is the velocity high enough in ur intake manifold to atomize fuel correctly?
if it breaths to good it means u have to wate untell ur up higher in the rpms to atomize fuel so what most like to do is free it all up before the manifold increasing velocity in the manifold
higher velocity = better atomization of fuel to an extent
just try to free it up to make power at a given rpm u like to run at
that goes for exhaust to
what good are the mods u do if there making up for the power another mod lost on a diff rpm range
so what u do is change the flow of the muffler and intake to flow and give u the most power in the rpm u like to run at and trying to make all mods give power in same rpm range that u like to run at
see what i did is dremeled my tb built a custom intake that uses engine resonating to force more air in(but it appears to use the momentum of the air since its a long straight pipe also a design that worked well in a mopar engine was using momentum of air in the intake manifold to force more air in and to use engine resonating was also another one done by mopar that also worked ) and it pulls it from outside for cooler air i also bought a gibson cat back exhaust single exit and didnt like how it ran with the last section being 3 inch and changed it to 2.5 inch
so what did i do? i made everything make its power where i want it and this in turn made one Hella v6

Message: HellaV6, I get a little over 13.5 mpg, in the city. How come my truck isn't holding up with the chevys or fords with a 8 cyl........ah yes, my truck has a V6 and not as good of a power to weight ratio. There is no way of gods green earth that you beat anthing with a V8 that had some mods. And kid, this means you Steve, why do you have to be such a dumb ass. Reverse burnout?? You need to go back to your powerwheels.
