Message: I just put a 17748 in my ext cab 1998 Dakota this last weekend. The body of the Dynomak was 20 inches and the body of the stock muffler was 16 3/4 inches. I got it to fit by reversing the front mounts and getting a shorter conecting pipe from Auto Zone it was 16 inches long I think, but the length probaly is different on a Quad cab.
Look at your set up and measure carfully. I did not weld anything and used the stock tail pipe. The hardest part was getting the stock system apart. I hope this helps. Larry may have some shortcuts to make it easier. good luck

Message: You may have seen my truck in waukesha or
milwaukee racine or union grove.
I go through there once in a while, I am origanaly
from milwaukee and go there to visit friends all
the time.
You may need to do some pipe modifications but you
should be able to install the muf with no welding
just a couple clamps.
On my short box I had to shorten the front about
2" on some you need to make longer with a short
piece of pipe and just clamp it in. be sure you
use either the stock hangers or a universal to
support the system
