Just replaced the thermostat today with a 180 degree.
Thought I would let anyone know how it went that's thinking of doing theirs.
I used Preston Super Flush first by the directions.
The heater didn't put out much heat when I bought the truck. It had a leak in the radiator and some fool put stop leak in it.
I replaced the radiator and anti-freeze, but I didn't drain the block so there still was stop leak in it, turning the anti-freeze an ugly brown.
Anyways I drained the block this time. The drain on the right side of the block was behind the engine mount. So I had to remove the mount to get at that side.
Use a 9/16 six point socket 1/2" drive to get the plugs out. There in pretty tight.
Also wear safety glasses or a face shield because when you take the plug out the anti-freeze shuts out fast.
When putting the thermostat housing back on I had to put a small piece of sand paper over the bolt heads, and push them into the socket, so I could get the bolts down past everything and get them started. I also used a drill extension with a small wire wheel to clean the manifold.
I stuck the garden hose in where the thermostat goes and let it run until everything came out clear and then did the radiator the same way. I also removed the heater hoses and flushed them in both directions. Keep the water psi turned down so you don't blow up the heater core.
Pretty easy job, the hardest part was not making a mess and catching all the fluid, and the heater works great now.
