I'm sitting at this stop light about 2 miles from my house, and an older model V6 Tacoma with about everything I can think of (exhaust, tips, bass system, tint job, etc) on it. He starts to toe the line and rev his engine, and considering I've only had the truck a month, and haven't really squared off against anyone, I said to myself "Go time...might as well see what this truck has." The light turns green, and to his credit, he took off pretty fast. Not fast enough, though. By the time I was up to about 55 mph, I was about 2 car lengths ahead of him. I slowed down a bit to get even with him again, and then stomped it again. Pulled away from him more slowly at the higher RPM's, but again, no contest. GOD did that feel good! *L* All this, on a bone stock V6 with ONLY a muffler. (So far. Not for long, though. :)

i love to hear those stories! my very first race was against my friend in his 89 toyoto (v6). but i didn't think it would be a challenge 3.0 vs 3.9 and his was a 4x4...still fun, though!:)

I kilt a toyota the other day. it was a 4x4. i dont know if it was a 4 cylinder or a V6. when the light turned green i had him the whole time. i got the faster start and then just pulled ahead. what killed him even worse then having a sucky truck was his bad shifting. when he shifted from first to second he feel almost half a car length behind and never caught back up.

Yeah, that's part of what got this guy too. I will say that when you go up against someone who can't shift well, having an automatic (as I do) is helpful. It's when you get a good driver that it gets tight. Although I can honestly say that the reason I got an auto was simply because it increases resale value; not because I can't shift.

To be honest I didn't know how much of a challenge it would be, because certain people say that the Toys are somewhat fast off the line. They may mean the newer ones. In retrospect, I can't say there was ever really a moment when he 'gained' on me, except when I let him. From that aspect, it wasn't a 'challenge.'
