Subject: cam ? for Larry IP: Logged
Message: Hey Larry I am going to do the timing chain TSB but install a Cloyes timing chain. What I was wondering is if you had the specs on the factory cam as far as what the center line is for degreeing in the cam? I would like to set it up write if I can get the specs. I have a 1996 3.9 V6 with several mods and more to come.
Thanks for the help, your a great asset to this forum.

Message: The centerline on a stock cam is 112 degree's
intake exhaust
opens 8 BTDC 56 BBC
closes 65 ABC 25 ATC
duration 250 264
lift .432
overlap 31 degree's
adding the 1.7 ratio rockers the engine will see
duration 254 268 with around a .480 lift
Use the center 0 keyway on the sproket and you
will be just fine.
If you go 4 degree's advance or retard it will
not run good
I am running the cloyes doubble roller myself

Message: Thanks! I'll be doing this in the next few weeks as time permits. I have the 1.7 ratio rockers so I am looking to get everything setup right.
Head work is in the plans as well as the intake manifold. Have you done anything to your intake manifold? What works and what doesn't?

Message: Yes my heads are ported and manifold modded.
Just radious the injector holes and ports to
knock the sharp edges off, you can cut the runner
back but you will lose low end.
Because I am stroked I don't even notice it on my
truck and the 10 to 1 comp also helps me.
Man its 8.45 am and dark as hell here another
storm is coming so I need to shut down.
I already lost 2 modems and my direcpc system
this year from lighting

Message: Larry, off topic, but make sure your direcpc (satellite) is properly grounded. If it is not grounded properly, you will lose your equipt. If you have an ohm meter, take one side to a known grd and the other to your ground rod on your sat. You should see the meter peg all the way to the right. You can do this for your telephone as well. Just so you know, providers ie: telco companies, sat. instalers, catv and the like are responsible by law to make sure you are properly grounded. If not, and you lose something in a storm, they have to pay. Also a small UPS, 50 or 60 bucks, will save you from the spikes. I figured with all the auto help you give, the least I could do was pass some wiring info.
