Subject: 6 cyl oil? IP: Logged
Message: I just picked up a used 1994 sport with the 6 cylinder and I was wondering what the correct amount of oil to use with a filter change? Is it 5 quarts just like the 318?

Message: owners manual stats 4.5 not 4.25, a slip of the finger perhaps, as methinks Daimler knows what they need.

Message: I always have to put in 4.5 quarts with a filter change. I have had two dakotas a 94 and now a 2000. Both will not run at the full line on less than 4.25 quarts. It also makes a difference whether or not you have drained the block and oil pan fully, warm oil will tend to drain faster and more thouroughly. Ony thing is it will burn the hell out of you if you are not carefull. Anyhow, use a decent oil like Mobil 1 or another synthetic. I used quaker state in my 94 and it was not bad, but I started to usemobil 1 and I will never go back. Get a good filter too, the 5.00 Fram's they sell at Wal-Mart are crap get a Wix or Purolator.

Message: I own a 2001 and the service manual says put in 4 quarts. I have replaced my oil and oil filter several times and my dipstick says it is full after driving the truck around the block. I use my truck to commute to work mostly.
