Subject: 6 to 8 swap IP: Logged
Message: hey guys, i was wondering about the pcm for my swap...(swapping my 6 to a 5.9)from what i've gathered on here, all that i would need to do is plug the 5.9's pcm into my stock harness and it would work fine, is this correct? or, do i have to get a new pcm? i have a 93 ext cab and i need to start on this soon, because my engine is going and i don't want to be stuck on the side of the road...i got the engine real cheap along with the tranny too...if anyone can help me out or point me in the right direction that would be great, thanks and have a good night.

Message: Cwj,
You are going to need the complete engine wiring harness and the pcm for the v8 for the 6-8 swap to work, unless your going carbed, then you really don't need either, except for a spliced up pre mag wiring harness. Hope that answers your question.

Message: The harness swap can be a bit pricey, ask "Dodgeboy" how to splice in 2 more injector wires if you dont want to go that route. He's done it and if your real handy with 12v elec you can do it.
Oh,and as Mopar340said you will need a V8 PCM, I reccomend a 360 Ram unit from that year.

Message: cool, thanks guys. I forgot to mention the engine is a 93 as well, but i guess that doesn't really matter? I just want to make sure i know about some of the little stuff before i get into the project. With any luck my engine will hold out until november and thats when i'll do it. And i'm going to try and make it up to the junk yard after work on sat and see if i can locate a ram. If any of you guys live near pa, or in pa, you may have heard of harrys you pull it. Its like a junk yard heaven. Anyways, thanks again and take it easy..
