Subject: K&N X- stream Tops IP: Logged
Message: Question.
I have a 10" air cleaner with a K&N air filter and was wanting to get the X-Stream filter top.
The problem is they sell them in 9" 11" and 14" sizes.
Any ideas out there weather the 11" top would work on the 10" filter?
There $54 from Summit, I called Summit and the guy wouldn't say if it would work. I probable wouldn't have said either.

Message: the top wont do much for u unless you have a cowl hood to pick up sum cold air from...cuz you would still be suckin in hot air. + thsse motors dont really suck in tons of air to begin with so theres really no benifit to it...just sum thoughts

Message: This isn't gonna answer your question, but what year truck do you have and what 10" air cleaner are you using? If you have the part number, that'd be great too.

Message: No Its a 14X3 with a 14" top
I dont think the cover would fit right because the
outer ring has a lip wherer the filter sits and
its only as wide as the filter your smaller filter
would be sitting on the actual eliment.
Get a bigger base OR
Go to plan B get a nice K&N Cone 2 rubber elbos of
4" PVC and put the filter down in front of the
inner fender well where it will grab some nice
Cold Air
Paint the tubes black and it will look good 4"
will flow more than you would ever need and its
quite you wont here the intake, om my truck with
the scoop and filter set up you can really hear
it pulling air at about 2200 2500 it sounds like
a turbo running when its just starting to hit the powerband 3000 to 4800 it drops off but will rev
to 5500 in the lower gears

Message: S.Hardy,
Thanks a TON for that site...did you have to use a spacer with your air cleaner or did modifying the bolt take place of that? Also, I didn't understand from the site what you do with the breather hose since they say it's vital that you DON'T leave it unhooked...what did you do? If anyone else knows that, feel free to answer it too...
For anyone else,
How much are the K&N air filters part# E-1070 (I think...10" by 2"high)?

Message: I paid around $54 at Auto Zone for the filter.
$19.95 for the air-cleaner body.
Didn't need a spacer and I made an s-bolt out of threaded stock. The breather hose will fit the new air-cleaner body, you'll just have to cut it down to fit once you have everything in place.
The air-filter was a little squirmy trying to get it to stay in place while putting the top on.
Here's the web site for the S-bolt mod.

Message: I had the same question. I e-mailed K&N just today with the exact same question. I have a 98 5.2L durango with the 10in edelbrock air cleaner and a 10x3in filter, you can get the filter at partstrain.com for about 44 plus shipping. I wouldn't recommend the cold air intake like j and J said because at least with my truck my transmission seemed to be forcing itself with it, once I installed the air cleaner and a 160 degree termostat it shifted much smoother and didn't really cause much difference in terms of temperature
