the tin piece on the breaker plate moves a little also the pick up coil moves in and out of openings about a 1/4 inch, is this normal. have had a rough idle sinice it was new

no on both questions,the rough idle could be this or the carb,the computer controls the metering on the carb of the fuel
try checking the codes

Just replace it the after market one i got from auto zone was $76.00 and unlike the stock unit the reluctor is rivited to the shaft not hot melted like the stocker. My 88 had the same problem and after chasing the usuall suspects i found a 1/4 inch of iron fillings in the bottom of my dist. Relucter wheel ate thruogh the pick up
