I am a newbie to Dakotas, almost exclusively previosly owning Toyota's, but recently purchased an 03 Dak 3.9l. I have been monitoring this board quite frequently and decided to install a Intense Performance Stage III 9" Powerstack on my new truck. I havent really noticed a difference yet and I was wondering if this was due to an air restriction. As I was installing the tube from the filter to the fender well I noticed that there was only a small gap allowing air into the fenderwell between the area where the bumper and headlight is. Is this enough air flow? Is there any more mods to this CAI to improve performance? Also what are some other good improvements that can be done to increase performance and gas mileage. Am looking at a catback, have heard good things about the gibson and the borla. Is the MSD ignition system and a Superchips chip worth it? I asked the dealer about some performance items, and they said installing headers or chips would void the warranty on the vehicle, opinions anybody?

Thanks,
BMN

Skip the MSD ignition, your stock one is good enough, unless you go Supercharged .Superchips or Hypertech III would be good ,cheaper mods V8 Throttle body from a 5.2 or 5.9 ,1.7Rollerrockers.A must is a New distributor cap and rotor (NAPA Part# M026 and M028 have Brass contacts) ,also switch the stock plugs for Autolite(3923) or NGK(?) .Swapping to Synthetic fluids(Engine,Differential tranny) makes things run smoother promotes longer engine life and reportedly does help performance. The Catback isn't absolutely necessary, you'd see the same performance increase from using JUST a better muffler Flowmaster40 or Dynomax(part# 17748)
