Subject: used distributor=loss of power IP: Logged
Message: hello everyone again,
I changed my distributor with a used one .
now my 1990 dakota misses & backfires when cold
also i have to floor the gas to get into the passing gear total loss of power. do i need to adjust the distibutor or did i just get a bum distributor?

Message: You may want to check your injector sync or have
someone check it and set it.
The dist controls when the injectors pulse when
you changed it its probably off.

Message: If it backfires through the intake then your rotor needs to point the other way. If it backfires through the exhaust you need to set the timing...
Take your number one spark plug out and hold your thumb over the whole. When you feel compression and the cylinder is all the way up you are at TDC (top dead center) At this point your rotor should be on your number one wire... Also make sure your firing order is correct.
