Got a check engine light. Did the "turn the key three times" gig. I saw "P0442" in the ODO window. I tried surfing few ODBII websites, but couldn't figure it out. Please, what is check engine code "P0442"

Thanks :o)

Thanks alot Larry! What do you think? is that maybe the gas cap wasn't tight? Should I clear the codes by disconnecting the neg bat cable and see if it comes back?

Sorry about that but I had some friends stop over with
2 big pizza's and I could not resist.

It could have been the gas cap lose

check your hoses on the purge valve near the firewall
the emissions box under the truck located on the driver's
side frame, for lose hoses or elec connections
reset the comp and see what happens

You don't need to really reset just check these things and
if it is not tripped again the light will not come back on
but the code will remain in the comp until reset

All this is, is the vent from the tank running through a
purge valve and a carbon canister with a filter on
it for venting gas fumes and a vacume switch

another thing that happens and sets the light off
is that a small amount of liquid gets in there.

Why they need to make things so complicated I will
never know

Thanks! I looked at those things, nothing seemed obvious. Reset the computer, no light, even after one commute. I must be OK now.

Thanks again for your kind and generous help!
