Subject: symtons for a water pump

Message:
What are the symtons for a worn out water pump? I noticed a puddle of antifreeze under the engine directly under the pump and I've had a knocking sound that I could not identify. So I spent the day replacing the pump and after starting it up the knocking noise was still there. The water pump that I removed did not seem to have any play in the shaft. What is the likelyhood that it was not the pump. I found no loose hoses and my '95 -3.9 has 82k miles.
I'm a newbie to this site...very informative!
Thanks for any help on the matter-

Is your antifreeze leak gone now.

The knock you are hearing is probably the timming
chain they are known for streching and hitting
the cover.

Just start it let it idle and put your head like
you are looking ubder the front bumper and I bet
you will hear it very good coming from the front
of the motor

Chrysler has a tensioner set uo to quite them down
If you do that as loong as your in there replace
the chain

They usualy start going out around 150,000

Thanks for the info Larry. I did not notice any antifreeze after a short test drive. Tomorrow I will be driving a fair amount so it should show up then if at all. Thanks for the information on the noisy tensioner it's nice to have an idea as to what it is and I will listen for the noise as you described.
